Born in Michigan, I pursued art in high school. I put myself through physical therapy school at Oakland University in the early 80's as the Campus Information and Programming Office's graphic artist. I lived two years in Macao on the southern coast of China, and love to travel. I have lived in Central Florida since obtaining my Master's Degree at the University of Florida in 1988. After an injury sidelined my career as a physical therapist, I returned to my first love, ART! Drawing a pet portrait gives me joy as I see or hear about the smiles and tears it brings to those who love their pets.
This is a picture from a few years back of me and Kodi, our first rescue dog!
Pencil is the first item an artist will reach for! Graphite is long-lasting and so wonderfully flexible. Portraits done in graphite will last for years, and I use only heavy, archival papers and materials. I use a UV protectant fixative on the portraits when I am finished. They are best protected under glass.
I am exploring the use of other media, and will show you some of my "Sunday-Funday" experimenting and exploring in future posts, (This is a dove I did recently with acrylic paints; seeking peace during a turbulent time in our world!).
Thank you for considering me when you are looking for that special pet portrait! Sadie is our newest rescue pup, and she does try to help, (although trying to take a selfie with her was challenging 😜). I look forward to hearing from you!
